Lyrax is gone. I can breathe again

CIVIC MAINTENANCE OBSERVATION

I don’t know who’s been doing it.

Every morning, when I begin my sweep at Orbit Park, there’s a new slip of paper on Bench 3. Folded small. Just a name. Sometimes in neat print, sometimes just a scrawl. I’ve seen over sixty by now.

No one claims them. No one ever sees anyone leave them.

They started showing up three days after the Null Flare broadcast. After the battle. After Lyrax.

I don’t throw them away. I started keeping them in a little box in my locker. It didn’t feel right, sweeping them into a recycler.

Today’s note was different.

It said:

“Lyrax is gone. I can breathe again.”

That’s all.

I left it there.

Some things are meant to sit a while.
